The empty chair is a blank screen. It can concretize anything or anybody. It can be used to encourage emotional expression, identify thoughts and feelings, explore/clarify multiple parts of self or other, facilitate role reversal to develop awareness, understanding and empathy, and for role training and role rehearsal.
This highly experiential and participatory workshop will include demonstration of creative ways to use both the Sociodramatic and Psychodramatic Empty Chair in groups as well as in working with individuals. We will look at the different uses of the empty chair during the warm up, as a valuable and multi faceted tool during therapeutic explorations and/or psychodramatic encounters and as a way to facilitate quick sharing and closure. Participants will learn ways to use the Empty Chair in both psychodramatic and sociodramatic structures that will include relational sculpting, interpersonal and intrapsychic encounters, role training and ways to concretize surplus reality.
